Character Creation

Character creation in Pathfinder: Domain should be both immediately familiar to Pathfinder players but also a little different, part mostly due to the fact that Kingdom Management is also involved.

( For those not familiar with how to make up a character in Pathfinder RPG, refer to page 8 onwards of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, or follow the link for ’Getting Started on the SRD webpage then follow up with Character Creation Outline on the same page)

If on the other hand you are well versed with making characters in and playing Pathfinder, you can use the following checklist:

NOTE: You begin with 120,000 points which can be converted into XP and/or Gold, point for point.

CHARACTER CREATION CHECKLIST

1. Choose Ability Scores: Domain uses the “Point-Buy” method, set at the “Epic Fantasy” level. This gives you 25 points to distribute between your six ability scores. The cost for each point can be found in the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, as well as on the Pathfinder SRD Website.

2. Choose Race: Be aware that your choice of race could impact your role in Kingdom Management, and may alter your ability scores. Remember that each Race has a “Purchase Cost” in XP to allow you to play them at level 1. See specific races for more information.

3. Choose a Class: These are the Core, Base and Alternative Classes from Pathfinder RPG (Create at level 1 for now)

4. Choose a Favoured Class: Each character begins play with a single favored class of his choosing—typically, this is the same class as the one he chooses at 1st level. Whenever a character gains a level in his favored class, he receives either + 1 hit point, + 1 skill rank or a favoured class feature. The choice of favored class cannot be changed once the character is created, and the choice of gaining a hit point or a skill rank each time a character gains a level (including his first level) cannot be changed once made for a particular level. Prestige classes can never be a favored class.

5. Allocate Skill Ranks: Determine the number of skill ranks your character gets based on his class and Intelligence modifier (and any other bonuses, such as the bonus received by humans).

6. Choose Feats

7. Determine Starting Hit Points

8. Determine Saving Throws, Initiative, and Attack Values. Determine all of the character’s other mechanical details, such as his or her saving throws, initiative modifier, and attack values. All of these numbers are determined by the decisions made in previous steps, usually determined by your class choice.

9. Description, Personality & Background: As part of this make sure you create your characters back-story. You can do this using Character Background on the official Paizo website (links are at the bottom of the page starting with Early Life ) or refer to pages 8 – 73 in the Pathfinder: Ultimate Campaign book.

NOTE: The Character Background creation rules only cover the Core Races (Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Halfling, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Human). To create a background for a Featured Race click HERE and to create a background for an Uncommon Race click HERE

10. Spells: If your character has access to spells, select their starting ones

11. Add as many more levels as you wish/can afford with remaining xp to your character (remembering to add your +1 to any Ability Score at level 4 and another +1 to any Ability Score at level 8)

12. Equip your character (NOTE: Starting wealth for characters in Domain is equal to their remaining XP points equivalent in Gold Pieces)

13. Hero Points: All characters in Pathfinder: Domain begin with 4 Hero Points.
